Classic Moments from the Past

1916 April 20: The Cubs win the first game at the park 7-6 in 11 innings over the Cincinnati Reds.
1930 September 28: The Cubs finish the season on a good note as Hack Wilson drives in RBI number 189 and 190 in a 12-11 victory over the Reds. The season RBI record stands to this day.
1932 October 1: Babe Ruth's infamous 'called' home run in game 3 of the World Series.
1943 September 24: A crowd of 314, the smallest in park history sees Andy Pafko makes his debut. Pafko has a single and a double, and drives in 4 runs in 3 at bats. The Cubs win the game 7-4 in a rain shortened 5 innings.
1954 April 17: The Cubs beat the Cardinals 23-13 in a wind blown game at the 'Friendly Confines'. The Cubs score 10 runs in the 4th inning and Randy Jackson has 4 hits, including a homer that hits an apartment building on Waveland Avenue.
1955 May 12: Cubs pitcher Sam Jones no hits the Pirates 4-0. In the 9th, he walks the bases loaded but recovers and fans the next 3 to end the game. It's the parks first no hitter since 1917.
1963 August 8: Frank Howard and Moose Skowron hit back to back pinch hit homers for the Dodgers, only the second time this has ever occurred. The Cubs hold on and win 5-4.
1964 September 13: St. Louis scores in each inning in a game against the Cubs. This was the first time this had been done since June 1, 1923.
1965 August 19: Reds pitcher Jim Maloney no hits the Cubs 1-0. He yields 10 walks but fans 12 in 10 innings.
1979 May 17: The Phillies beat the Cubs in a wild one 23-22 in 10 innings. The game features a record tying 11 homers. Dave Kingman has 3 home runs and 6 RBI's and Bill Buckner has a grand slam and 7 RBI's for the Cubs. Mike Schmidt has only 2 home runs, one of them coming in the 10th inning to win the game.
1980 April 22: The Cubs rally from trailing 12-5 to beat the Cardinals 16-12. Barry Foote's 2 out grand slam in the bottom of the 9th inning is the game winner. Foote has a career game, with 4 hits, 2 home runs and 8 RBI's. Ivan DeJesus hits for the cycle for the Cubs.
1988 August 9: The Cubs and Mets play the first official night game at the park. The Cubs win 6-4. Lenny Dykstra hits the first night home run supplanting Phillie Phil Bradley's whose home run from last night was washed out.
