Southpaw Carlton Shipped to Phils

February 25, 1972

Philadelphia Phillies GET

Here's a trade at the time looked like a good deal for both teams. Each pitcher had pitched in 7 seasons with their respective teams. With the Cardinals, Carlton racked up 77 wins, while Wise had 75 wins. In June of 1971, Wise pitched a no hitter while smashing 2 home runs in a game against the Reds. However, a trade was consummated that sent him to the Phillies in a one for one swap for Steve Carlton. Carlton goes on to become the second winningest lefty in big league history.
